FUTURIST

Alt Rock / Psych Pop from Flagstaff, AZ

About —

FUTURIST is an acclaimed alt-psych band broadcasting from the high desert of Flagstaff, Arizona. With nearly two decades of evolution behind them, FUTURIST blends genre-defying soundscapes, mythic storytelling, and modern mysticism into a sound best described as future-classic—as grounded as it is visionary.

Founded in Brooklyn in 2008 by vocalist/guitarist Curtis Peel, the band has steadily evolved through a series of bold creative shifts—from the raw optimism of War Is Yesterday (2011), to the layered introspection of Omens (2019), to the prophetic weight of Year of the Ox (2022). Their music channels the emotional depth of Wilco, the visual spectacle of The Flaming Lips, and the sonic experimentation of Radiohead—while carving out a space entirely their own.

Praised for their explosive live shows, immersive multimedia vision, and earnest songwriting, FUTURIST speaks to the cerebral, the heartfelt, and the seekers of something just beyond the veil.

Stage & Volume Flexibility

FUTURIST is a 5-piece band with a dynamic range—we can scale our sound to suit the space. From full-volume electric sets to stripped-down acoustic arrangements, we tailor our performance to match the energy and acoustics of the venue. While we thrive with ample stage room, we’re flexible and experienced in adapting to both intimate and large-format environments.

"To simply describe it as psychedelic doesn’t do Futurist justice, as they expertly mix genres and layer track upon track of intricate melodies to create a lush soundscape that engulfs the listener. There aren’t too many bands or artists creating in such a free manner these days, free from concern or time limits, unaffected by the outside. When you combine that level of purity with impressive musicianship and a shared desire to escape or create escapism for an audience, the results can be superb. Enter Futurist, a band truly intent on building that kind of sound and experience for their listeners."
- BuzzMusic

“Futurist’s lyrics wouldn’t be out of place in a tarot deck, but they’re not entirely detached from reality; at the core of the music is a clear yearning for closure, likely of a romantic nature. As such, the band’s ability to bridge the gap between the tangible and the transcendental endows their music with a unique magical realism, and promises more esoteric imagery on their forthcoming sophomore effort, Omens.”
- The Deli Magazine

“Futurist have embraced their modern tools to create a hybrid sound that is both traditional and forward-looking.”
- The Big Takeover

  • We typically require 30–45 minutes for full setup and soundcheck, depending on the venue’s in-house system and stage access.

Our setup includes 5 performers, a mix of electric and acoustic instruments, live synths, vocal mics, and a moderate number of DI lines. We often incorporate ambient visuals or light cues for select songs, which may involve a projector or video input (if available). While these elements are optional, they enhance the immersive experience and are designed to integrate easily with most venue setups.

We’re punctual, communicative, and respectful of house staff—we aim to make setup as smooth and efficient as possible.

Soundcheck is negotiable with the house, but we definitely would prefer enough time to check our levels and monitors.

  • We do not currently travel with a dedicated sound engineer, but we’re experienced working with house techs and provide a clear stage plot and input list in advance. We’re happy to coordinate ahead of time to ensure a smooth show. We also do not require backline, but can work with venue-supplied gear if needed—just let us know what’s available.

  • We require basic stage power (standard 110V outlets across the backline and front-of-stage) and enough DI inputs for synths, bass, and additional effects.

If visuals/screens are an option, we’ll request access to a projector or HDMI input. We’ll provide a tech rider and are happy to adjust to your house specs.

  • Absolutely. We actively promote each show via social media, email lists, posters, and targeted local outreach/ads, and we collaborate closely with venues and promoters to amplify the event. Our visuals and content are optimized for both digital and print.

  • We can perform sets ranging from 40 minutes to 2-3 hour (in 2 sets), depending on the event’s needs. Our most common format is a 45-60 minute headlining set, but we’re flexible and can also tailor shorter support sets or extended performances with interludes and visuals when appropriate.

  • Yes, we typically bring vinyl, shirts, stickers, and other items to each show. We’re self-contained with a compact merch setup and handle all transactions ourselves, unless the venue prefers a dedicated seller.

  • Yes—we love playing with local artists and are always open to thoughtfully curated bills. We believe in building scenes and fostering creative communities wherever we go.

  • We’re open to private shows, art spaces, or immersive/non-traditional venues, depending on the vibe and setup. Feel free to reach out with details—we’re always up for something unique.

  • Yes. While some material explores mature themes, we’re comfortable adjusting our set for all-ages or community-oriented environments when requested.

  • We appreciate basic hospitality (water, snacks, meal or buyout) and can arrange our own lodging unless otherwise provided. For longer distances or multi-day bookings, we’re happy to discuss accommodations in advance.
